In my paintings, I employ my favorite technique – oil on canvas. At the onset of my artistic journey, I created diverse works encompassing compositions, landscapes, portraits, and the architecture of Vilnius. Nature, particularly autumn landscapes with their unique color palette, rich spectrum of hues, and vibrant yellows and reds, served as my inspiration. I endeavored not to imitate or replicate nature but to present it in my distinctive style.
The theme of angels also featured prominently in my earlier works. I took pleasure in painting them; perhaps it was a subconscious inclination. Angels can be interpreted in various ways, but for me, they symbolize the perfection of beings, the pursuit of light, and excellence – a connection beyond the reach of our material consciousness. An angel, a spiritual entity devoid of matter, acquires visible shapes through human imagination. My angels possessed their own distinct forms.
Like any creator, I am constantly in search of new forms of creative expression. Recently, my artistic inclinations have gravitated towards abstraction. Abstract paintings are inspired by my own thoughts and are the outcome of contemplation, serving as interpretations of experiences.
I have never aspired to capture photography in my paintings. My artworks encapsulate emotions and feelings. During the painting process, I apply layers of paint onto the canvas, merging them to recreate a remembered image of reality that has become ingrained in the subconscious. I then proceed to shape and create.
It is inconsequential what subject matter I choose to paint; it always emanates from within, a product of cognitive processes, reading, thoughts, and the current lived experiences, all translated into a creative form.
However, these are not mere arbitrary brushstrokes lacking purpose or meaning. Within the indistinct, intuition-guided splotches and lines, within the realm of improvisation and chance, I endeavor to articulate thoughts, feelings, impressions, and experiences.
I hold the belief that one does not necessarily need to discern a specific meaning within the paintings; it could simply evoke a mood or reflect the artist’s state of mind. Abstract art, in a sense, processes reality, offering an escape from the external world. It provides an avenue to express elements that are challenging to conceptualize and opens the door for artists to non-figuratively depict what only they can see, compelling viewers towards a more emotionally charged approach to art.
These paintings have been exhibited in various exhibition halls in Vilnius and the Vilnius region. My works have found their place in private collections in Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, and America.
